Inventory File Siz Exceeded

Hi All,

I have some SIC files that are larger then the 5MB limit and have seen in the error message how to resolve this by changing HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_SOFTWARE_INVENTORY_PROCESSOR\Max File Size to something larger then 5MB.

My server is 64 bit so actually had to change HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_SOFTWARE_INVENTORY_PROCESSOR\Max File Size

I have set this to 45MB but continue to get the message in the sinvproc.log stating "WARNING - File size of 10 MB has exceeded the limit of 4 MB."

I have restarted the SCCM services but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I would suggest trying a lower number.  A large number is supported, but its not clear the true limitation.

    Hope this helps.

From what I have read in another forum, a reply was posted by Wally stating that 50MB is the maximum that will process even if you set the limit to a larger number.

The problem that I have is that is still states that 4MB is the 'limit' even though I have changed it.

What's actually in Max File Size ?

Just asking, because that should be all there is to it. Changing the dword value (decimal) from 5000000 to 20000000 would make it be 20mb instead of 5mb.

Alternatively, what do you have in SWInventory? The default of all hard drives, *.exe? You might want to consider deleting that, and using %programfiles% , *.exe, and then any other separate ones you want (like specific .dlls etc. that you might want to know about).

Yep, changed the dword value to 45,000,000.

We are collecting *.exe, *.mp3, *.pst, *.mdb, *.mpg, *. doc, *.docx, *.ppt, *.pptx, *.xls, *.xlsx.

The maximum SIC file size that I have is from the file server, which is 43MB in size.

File server? Well, then... do you really, really care about those files that are stored in the shared folder locations? Maybe. But maybe not.

If not, may I suggest you leverage the SkpSwi.dat file (make sure it's hidden)?

Yes, I have suggested that but  the 'powers that be' want to know everything that is going on.

That is the full inventory. Once that has been processed I won't be having this problem again....
