Help! Unable to compile smsclient.mof

Hi,

I received the following error when trying to install the SMS client on a
Windows 2003 SP1 server  "Setup was unable to compile the file SMSClient.mof"
The error code is 8004100E.

I have rebuilt the WMI repository - no luck
When I do mofcomp -check smsclient.mof     - it indicates no problems

When I do mofcomp smsclient.mof                 -I get the following error:

MOF file has been successfully parsed
Storing data in the repository...
An error occurred while opening the namespace for object 1 defined on lines
46 -
 51:
Error Number: 0x8004100e, Facility: WMI
Description: Invalid namespace
Compiler returned error 0x8004100e

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Rosemary

After doing some more troubleshooting the problem was indicating the CCM namespace was not present.  I found this posting in the microsoft.public.sms.setup group by Wesley Fernandes that fixed my problem.

To perform a more thorough manual rebuild, run the following series of
    commands:

    %windir%\system32\wbem\winmgmt /clearadap
    %windir%\system32\wbem\winmgmt /kill
    %windir%\system32\wbem\winmgmt /unregserver
    %windir%\system32\wbem\winmgmt /reserver
    %windir%\system32\wbem\winmgmt /resyncperf
    net stop winmgmt /y
    if exist %windir%\system32\wbem\repository.old rmdir /s /q
    %windir%\system32\wbem\repository.old
    rename %windir%\system32\wbem\repository
    %windir%\system32\wbem\repository.old
    regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\system32\scecli.dll
    regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\system32\userenv.dll
    mofcomp %windir%\system32\wbem\cimwin32.mof
    mofcomp %windir%\system32\wbem\cimwin32.mfl
    mofcomp %windir%\system32\wbem\rsop.mof
    mofcomp %windir%\system32\wbem\rsop.mfl
    for /f %s in ('dir /b /s %windir%\system32\wbem\*.dll') do regsvr32 /s %s
    for /f %s in ('dir /b /s %windir%\system32\wbem\*.mof') do mofcomp %s
    for /f %s in ('dir /b %windir%\system32\wbem\*.mfl') do mofcomp %s
    net start winmgmt
    %windir%\system32\wbem\wmiprvse /regserver
start other services which were stopped when winmgmt stopped

Thanks Wesley - hope this solution can help someone else!

Microsoft doesn't recommend rebuilding the WMI repository anymore.  In fact, I don't think they ever recommended it--it's just techs like us found that it worked about 50% of the time, so that solution is all over the net.  I suggest you try WMIDiag to diagnose your WMI issues; and hopefully it will give you recommendations on how to fix it.

Since you've already deleted the repository; you may not get great results from wmidiag; but it's worth a shot.  Personally, if a delete/rebuild of WMI didn't fix the problem (this was before wmidiag was released)... if I couldn't figure it out in 30 minutes, I reimaged the box.

For future reference, you may want to look into KB933062; a WMI preventative maintenance hotfix for XP.  But... that won't do you any good at this point.  It's not a fix for an existing corrupt WMI.
